warmed orange with healthy nuts, seeds and spices topping

3 daily ‘good for you’ tips

It’s good to have a citrus fruit every day, … and drink at least half your daily water by late morning… and start your day with a good sprinkle of the LSA combo of linseeds, sunflower seeds and almonds (from my old liver cleanse diet book.) A good source of protein, essential fatty acids, minerals, and fibre.

1. Nuts and Seeds

Add 3 or 4 tablespoons of this mix . I mix it up and keep in a jar in the fridge. It’s nutty, and slightly sweet from the almonds.
3 part linseeds / flaxseeds
2 parts sunflower seeds
1 part almonds
A part can be a spoon or a cup or whatever 🙂

Equipment needed

For grinding the nuts and seeds you will need a little chopper bowl like a mini food processor, a little coffee bean / spice grinder, or a good chopping bowl that comes with a hand blender.

I have a little Cuisinart one that I bought Paul years ago, very effective but a little noisy ( they did warn me when I bought it , but the price was great). That’s Cuisinart in a nutshell to me – does the job well, price is always great, but you have to compromise somewhere on the quality.

I don’t need it any more anyway as these days I tend to use the chopping bowl on my Bamix hand blender and it has a pulverising disk that just sits on top and turns everything into powder ! like magic, I’m amused every time so it’s a real feel good piece of equipment for me.  ( I used my Bamix Swissline )

2. Optional warming spices

Of course, I mixed in some freshly ground cinnamon and ginger too;;) hmmm it’s even better when warmed, than the well known ‘Moroccan oranges with cinnamon’ cold dessert.

3. Sweetness

One orange… Finally drizzled with agave syrup. You don’t need much. And could replace it with … coconut yoghurt, any healthy yoghurt. There’s a thought ! ? ? ?

Ps I’m no expert, I’ve just lived a lot ?

More recently I wanted to try out the Sumac I’d had in the cupboard for a while. I just added some ground mixed spice ( pumpkin spice… cinnamon, clove, nutmeg ) with some Sumac on top ( has a sour sweet berry taste) and a few dollops of 0% fat natural yoghurt and its BRILLIANT. I didn’t use the nuts and seeds mix for a change.

This is my new favourite evening treat… and would make a scrumptuous dessert. I didn’t need to add any other sweetener, and I get to use that Sumac up more too.

Win win.
