Now here’s the thing… I have a confession to make right now!

We don’t even have a kettle anymore because we’re in rented accommodation all the time. So I dream about the ideal kettle, I notice everyone else’s kettle much more and enjoy playing with them!

I’m beginning to sound weird right, but for 6 months of the year we live in a holiday house that only had one of those old-fashioned whistle top kettles – and I like to see right inside my kettle, not just through the spout. So we don’t use it… and gave it back to the landlord so we could have more cupboard space.

I use a small milk pan on the stove to heat water – I like to see my herbs steeping in it, or just make it warm enough to have a cup of warm water before bed.

Or, I take it from our coffee machine’s hot water tap – where I know the temperature is bang on for my Aeropress coffee. Crikey, I could even use my sous vide to heat water up to a precise temperature in any container if I choose.

If I fancied a little treat…

My dad got the Russell Hobbs Honeycomb model.

But if I wanted something nice to look at every day… not too much money… not overdoing the tech side… and makes me smile when I use it. I’d choose this one right now.

There’s more!

anoSo far we’ve shown you the favourite jug kettles, because that’s what most people think of when they imagine a kettle.

Dome kettles are pretty popular too, even if they’re not for me. The Russell Hobbs Emma Bridgewater is still one of the most highly regarded, but you have to like that dotty pattern!

Apart from that, you’re looking at collections style kettles, like the KitchenAid artisan, or the Smeg range or De´Longhi Scolpito that seem to be a sort of halfway house look!

Gooseneck kettles are for that pretty perfect pour when making coffee. The one that all the reviewers ( of general electric kettles ) seem to hone in on is the Cosori  – a great entry level model.

Coffee connoiseurs rather go for the Fellow Stag EKG.

For a simple stovetop precise gooseneck, I still love the Gator gooseneack. You can read more about that and other great little coffee acessories at the end of my  Aeropress page. The Bean envy and the Bonavita are also pretty great models. And look out for a new name Timemore... I’m loving my new coffee grinder from them, so I’ll be checking their kettle out too.
